I wanted to blog about this the moment I read about it but workloads caught up with me and I was doomed to forget. Lucky me, I found the article as I was sorting through the old copies of The Star.
In the article, Datuk Abu Hassan Din proposed that all women should wear chastity belts as to prevent rape and incest. This was back in February at a Maal Hijrah seminar. My first reaction was, “What the hell?” Then I was embarrassed for him for publicly declaring himself a male chauvinist despite the fact that he opposed the notion that Islam is a sexist religion in the world.
Women have been blamed for all sorts of nonsense regardless of her religion through out the years. Apparently, we are the cause of the original sin. As far as I could remember reading, Eve didn’t shove the apple into Adam’s mouth. He did it willingly; Eve was just there persuading him. In my opinion, this only proves that men can’t make sensible decisions.
In a family, as what I am thought, the men are responsible towards the women of the house. They are the protector. If so, then why do incest occurs? I mean, really, how can you do such a thing to your own flesh and blood?
I don’t hate men. I love RockerDad and my brothers and I adore my male friends. I refuse to believe (even though most of the time the facts holds true) that in general:
- Men have a hard on every time a woman in a mini or a too tight top walks by which makes me wonder if….
- The penis is the only fully functional organ in a male anatomy which leads to…
- Men can’t control their sex drive (which makes you the equivalent of an animal)
And the least unimaginable thing that I hate to confirm;
- Men have rape fantasies towards women *shudders*
No, women didn’t ask to be raped but they are partially responsible of being raped. It’s not like a woman wants it to happened to her, you know. I believe that every woman should maximize her ability to protect herself either through martial arts, common sense, pepper spray etc. To protect herself IS her responsibility.
I’m no feminist but I do believe should have the right to wear what pleases them. Even so, I won’t be caught dead in something that’s too flesh baring. It’s just not our country’s culture to bare too much. Being sexy is only in the state of mind, I think.
To Datuk Abu Hassan Din, it’s very demeaning to us women that you even suggested that chastity belt thing. It shows how much you disrespect and distrust us and our action. As much as I would like to think you’re the only who thinks that, sadly there’re others who thinks the same way as you do. I just hope that I would never encounter another one and to prove him wrong and redeem back all the dignity that us women still have.
